This is the entry-level program for individuals seeking to learn how to swim. The program is designed to address and resolve any fear the new swimmer may have for the water and to teach the new swimmer basic freestyle technique. Classes are limited to six (6) swimmers per instructror and consequently limited spaces are available.
Learn to Swim (LTS) instructors begin the program by teaching the new swimmer a series of exercises and drills designed to introduce the swimmer to basic freestyle mechanics while simultaneously increasing the swimmer’s comfort level in the pool. Such exercises and drills will focus on encouraging head submersion, kicking and basic freestyle stroke technique development.
In order to advance to the next level LTS swimmers must be able to complete one full length freestyle (25 meters) demonstrating a basic grasp of the fundamental freestyle stroke mechanics and skills.
The Learn to Swim program is geared primarily towards teaching young children how to swim, however, evening classes are available for all adults and seniors wishing to learn how to swim. For more information see the 'Adult' section under 'Available Programs'.
