Members of the Improve Your Stroke 2 (IYS2) program will strive to develop their freestyle and backstroke techniques in addition to learning the remaining competitive swimming strokes (butterfly and breaststroke). Increased emphasis is placed on technique development and aerobic conditioning for all strokes.
IYS2 swimmers will learn the various competition transitional turning techniques as well as the starting, finishing and relay techniques for each stroke. The primary objective of the program is to improve the general skill level of the swimmer in preparation for advancement to the competitive level.
IYS2 swimmers will be gradually introduced to interval and endurance training culminating in the ability to utilize the training pace clock. Ultimately, the development of sound technique and fundamentals combined with the ability to swim continuously for 15 minutes are the goals seeking to be achieved by all IYS2 swimmers.
IYS2 swimmers are eligible to compete and are encouraged to do so once achieving the requisite skill level.
In order to advance to the competitive level IYS2 swimmers must be able to swim a complete 200m Individual Medley (2 lengths of butterfly, backstroke, breaststroke and freestyle in succession without stopping) demonstrating a firm grasp of all stroke techniques and related turns.
