National Swimming Championships Awards Banquet

The other day I was thinking about the old days when following the Bahamas National Championships there was an awards banquet on the last day of the Competition. Highpoint trophies and Best Swim awards were presented to the swimmers in a formal setting after which there was dancing for the young folks and drinks for all those parents and volunteers who had put in so much hard work over the weekend. Not only was it an opportunity for the star athletes of the Competition to be recognized but it was also an opportunity for the kids and parents of the many clubs to get together in a social setting.
You might be asking yourself ‘why did the practice of holding an awards banquet stop’? – it is my understanding that due to the increase in the number of events the last day of competition did not end until late in the evening at which time many folks were exhausted and looking forward to going home and resting as opposed to attending an awards banquet. Whatever the case may be I am all for having some form of an awards banquet hosted by the BSF either at the end of the Bahamas National Championships or at some other appropriate time in the swimming year thereby affording the BSF the opportunity to award swimmers for their performances in addition to recognizing members of the public for their contributions to Bahamas Swimming. The event would also allow for the recognition of the often forgotten coaches and officials. Again, this is simply my view and I invite you to express your opinions by making a comment and/or voting in the poll?
