National Swimming Championships Awards Banquet

National Swimming Championships Awards Banquet

The other day I was thinking about the old days when following the Bahamas National Championships there was an awards banquet on the last day of the Competition. Highpoint trophies and Best Swim awards were presented to the swimmers in a formal setting after which there was dancing for the young folks and drinks for all those parents and volunteers who had put in so much hard work over the weekend. Not only was it an opportunity for the star athletes of the Competition to be recognized but it was also an opportunity for the kids and parents of the many clubs to get together in a social setting.

STOLEN THUNDER v. COMPETITION

True to form, the 2003 National Swimming championships was not without the usual bout of controversy. One fruitful source of dispute was the issue as to whether unattached BSF members (swimmers not affiliated with a specific club) ought to be permitted to combine to form a relay team.

National Training Team - Yes or No

NATIONAL TEAM

Over the past year or so there have been murmurings of the establishment of a National Training Team for senior swimmers. At present swimmers selected to represent The Bahamas in international competitions are only required to train together for several weeks prior to the competition. The training is conducted by the National Coach selected to coach the team for that particular competition. Following the competition swimmers continue their training with their clubs.
